Wynn Signs Swedish House Mafia for Two-Year Residency

Who says there’s no mafia in Las Vegas?

Swedish House Mafia, an electronic music threesome, has announced their first-ever North American nightlife residency at Wynn Las Vegas.

Maybe “threesome” isn’t the right word. There are three of them. Trio, we’ll go with that. Prude.

Swedish House Mafia is widely credited with the popularity of house music, and to a lesser degree casita music, in the U.S.

The three DJs in question are Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello and Axel “Axwell” Hedfors. Everyone knows that. What are you, old and lame and out of touch with pop culture?

By “pop culture,” of course, we mean “Don’t You Worry Child” was released in 2012.

The Swedish DJ trio will begin their Encore Beach Club and XS Nightclub residency on Aug. 20, 2022.

In honor of the residency, according to the official announcement, “Encore Beach Club and XS Nightclub will enhance its audio-visual production to offer guests an immersive and captivating experience. Each venue will feature a customized stage design, curated LED displays, pyrotechnics, cryogenics and more.”

There is literally nothing in Las Vegas that is not “immersive” at this point. Today, we used an immersive cocktail napkin at a Las Vegas casino.

Swedish House Mafia previously did a farewell tour and broke up. Now, the team has reunited to make new music, start a new Wynn residency and pay some bills.

Swedish House Mafia’s scheduled dates for 2022 include Aug. 20 and Sept. 3 at XS Nightclub. Dates for shows in 2023 will be announced down the road.

We don’t need to hear how loud it is to say turn it down. Also, get off our lawn.

As with virtually any Las Vegas scoop you hear before it’s officially announced, we shared Swedish House Mafia would end up at Wynn way back in 2019.

Back then, Palms aspired to be a player in the nightclub/nightlife realm. Bidding wars were common between Palms and Wynn, with astronomical dollars involved, leading to the implosion of Kaos and the sale of Palms.

We trust the fee being paid to Swedish House Mafia is more in line with the going rate than what Wynn was offering during the Kaos era.

Fun fact: Cardi B was paid $300,000 for a 15-minute appearance at Kaos? Clearly unsustainable.

Just to keep things interesting, Swedish House Mafia sometimes performs in dust storms.

We are not a nightclub person, but we like Swedish House Mafia’s music. Their hits include “One” and “Save The World.”

To their credit, the group’s most recent album, “Paradise Again,” debuted in April 2022 and went to number one on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Album Chart. Yes, we could’ve shared that after our “Don’t You Worry Child” reference, but it would’ve ruined the joke.
